Dust Off the Ordinary: Unlocking Authentic Living Through Design

As an interior designer passionate about creating spaces that resonate deeply with personal stories, I’m thrilled to share one of my most exciting ventures: developing a stunning beach home on one of Greece’s idyllic islands. This project is a new build, a blank canvas waiting to be transformed into a sanctuary that balances timeless elegance with authentic Greek charm.

This endeavor holds a special place in my heart because it’s not just any project; it’s deeply personal. I am half Greek and It’s a place of vibrant memories, where the sun-kissed shores and crystal-clear waters always felt like home. Building here allows me to honor that connection and infuse the space with the culture and essence of Greece that I hold so dear.

Why Authenticity Matters

This experience has reminded me why authenticity is at the core of my design philosophy. Designing my own project here has been a journey of self-discovery and cultural reconnection, and it’s made me even more attuned to how crucial it is for my clients to see their own stories reflected in their spaces. Whether it’s a home, a vacation retreat, or a commercial space, the design should be as unique as the people who inhabit it. This belief shapes every project I undertake, ensuring that my clients’ individuality shines through in every detail.

International Design, Local Impact

One of the joys of being an interior designer in today’s connected world is the ability to work internationally without limits. From my home studio, I collaborate with clients across the globe, bringing their visions to life through virtual consultations, detailed design plans, and curated material selections. Modern technology makes it seamless to bridge the distance, but I also understand that some aspects of design benefit from an in-person touch.

I’ve been fortunate to combine both approaches for this beach home in Greece. While much of the planning and creative process happens remotely, I can travel to the site at key moments. This allows us to source materials locally, ensuring the design stays true to its surroundings, and to check in on construction progress firsthand. In these moments of hands-on involvement, the vision truly comes to life.

Crafting a Greek Dream

For this beach home, the design will blend contemporary elegance with elements of traditional Greek architecture. Think whitewashed walls that reflect the sun, natural stone accents that echo the island's rugged beauty, and wide, open spaces that invite the outdoors in. It’s about celebrating simplicity, functionality, and the connection to nature that’s so integral to Greek living.

Of course, there will also be personal touches—a nod to my heritage and a reflection of my client’s wishes. From handcrafted ceramics to custom-designed furnishings, every element will tell its own story.
